Udupi : A hi-tech state of the art fish market which is under construction at Padubidri with the joint participation of the Union and State Governments, is expected to be inaugurated in the month of August. This would be the second such modern fish market in entire south India.
The market building is coming up in a 6500 square feet area in an arch shape and a sum of Rs 76.92 lakhs is being spent for the purpose. If the National Fisheries Development Corporation is bearing 90 per cent of the expenses,the remaining 10 per cent is borne by the State Government.
Every fish seller will have a steel tray shaped seat, place for ice box and a granite slab to place the fish basket. There would be separate water facility for each outlet, non-slip floor and jet water supply to maintain cleanliness.Other amenities include dining room, rest room. store room,lavatories and wash basin.
The Coastal Development Authority will also be providing ice box worth Rs 2000 , two plastic baskets, plastic gown, plastic hand gloves, slippers to be worn inside the market precincts and an LCD TV to each fisherwomen
