Mangalore : St. Jude Thaddeus Church and Shrine at Pakshikere celebrated the week-long golden jubilee celebrations and concluded on Oct 28, Thursday.
The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Bernard Moras, the archbishop of Mangalore, and other priests.
Chief Guest Udupi Pejawar Mutt Seer Shri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji said that Christians are well-known their service to the poor. Stressing the fact that there is one god although there are many religions.
He also voiced his opinion regarding the need for a memorandum of understanding (MoU) among various religious leaders to avoid communal clashes.
Dr. Bernard Moras honoured the Swamiji, who later presented the keys of houses constructed for poor people, a project that was financed by John Carnelio of Udupi.
Dr. Bernard Moras presided over the event.
Fr. Stanley Pereira was also honoured on the occasion for bringing out a special issue of “Yatrik,” the shrine magazine which was released on the occasion.
MLA Abhayachandra Jain, Vicar Var of Kinnigoli Deanery Fr. Alfred Pinto, President of the Suratkal division of SSF P. M. Ashraf Amsadi, and Editor of “Yugapurusha” Kodethoor Bhuvanabirama Udupa were present on the dias.
Louis D’Souza welcomed the gathering and Relita Coutinho proposed the vote of thanks.
