Mangalore : To create a healthy society around us, we need to remind the younger generations, especially the students at large, to be aware of ecology protection, said Ports & Ecology Minister Krishna J. Palemar, inaugurating an MCC competition programme on July 25th Sunday, related to solid waste materials management and an awareness of it among students in city. A prize of Rs, 1000 is being awarded to those students who provide clues or tips about waste carrying Lorries (with their numbers on plates) which dump such unhealthy loads anywhere in the city not in garbage bins.
Speaking on the occasion, DK Minister Palemar observed that MCC departments are keen to keep the city clean and have shown great interest in removing solid waste materials thrown around nooks and corners of the port city. Tree planting is done as a complementary step to maintain city’s health through greenery and cleanliness these days, he added.
Mayor Rajni Dugganna presided over the MCC function. Coastal Development Authority Chairman B. Nagaraja Shetty, Deputy Mayor Rajendra Kumar, chief Whip Ranganath Kini, SC chiefs R. Shantha, Roopa D.Bangera were chief guests.
Paintings instructor Syed Asif Ali drew a picture of National scene. MCC Commissioner Dr. Vijay Prakash welcomed the gathering. Assistant Health officer Raghunath proposed a vote of thanks.
