Mangalore : Speaking after hoisting the National flag on the 63rd Indepencdence day celebrated at Nehru Maidan on August 15, Sunday, District-In-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar said that District administration in association with state government are dedicated to continue their developmental programmes in Dakshina Kannada without gender bias.
He also said Dakshina Kannada has witnessed the spirit of secularism, co-existence, unity and brotherhood during Mangalore’s worst ever aviation tragedy occurred on May 22. He also thanked the the people who came forward to help and support the victims of the air crash.
Palemar also said that inorder to avoid the housing problem, the Districtb administraton has provided shelter for 7,276 beneficiaries have been provided under Rs.25.66 crore scheme.
The Independence Day parade by 18 teams including Reserve Police, District Armed Reserve (DAR) police, Civil, Traffic, Coast Guards, Home Guards, NCC, Scouts, Guides, Bharat Seva Dal and student’s band enteratined the gathering.
Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj, Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, SP Dr A Subrahmanyeshwara Rao, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA Yogish Bhat, MLC Ganesh Karnik were present on the occasion.
As a part of the independence day, the Dakshina Kannada Sports Promoters organized the 5 over Independence Cup Cricket, in which the Mangalore Eleven Team, Press Eleven Team, Superintendent of Police Eleven Team, Deputy Commissioner Eleven Team, Mayor Eleven Team and Vice – Chancellor Eleven Team actively participated giving the tough competition to each team.
In the match Deputy Commissioner Eleven Team won the winner’s Trophy while Press Eleven Team received the runner up Trophy.
Sadanada Shetty, owner of Sports Promoters handed over the trophies to the first winning team Captain DC VPonnuraj and second winning teams captain Harsha of Indian Express. Later he also felicitated Shepard and Ivan Patrao for their long term contribution in the field of sports.
