Mangalore : The officials of Pandeshwar South Police Station were successful in arresting Shareef Ibrahim, a trickster, who had fled from the country after cheating dozens of middle-class families from coastal Karnataka of millions of rupees near Mudigere on November 6, Saturday around 7.30 am.
A round 20 victims out of Thirty-eight of Shareef Ibrahim and the activists of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) DK District Committee, gathered at the premises of Pandeshwar Police Station as soon as they got the news of Shareef’s arrest.
Shanaz one of the victim said that, Shareef has always assured to returned the amount of the victims, but never fulfilled it. I am not from well to do family, so I had taken money from sisters and brothers to pay the rent to the owner through Shareef and in this case the police officials must help to give us the justice, he said.
After the arrest, Shareef is telling that he will repay the money, but at present he does not have it. We believed in him, with the feeling of Muslim brotherhood and he must give it back, she said.
While another victim, Sheikh Mohammed Iqbal, a resident of Nalpad Kunil Towers on Nellikai Road said that when the victims asked about the money with Shareef he said he does not have it and giving false assurance to pay them after giving other flat for lease to others. He is also responsible to increase the rent of the flat, he added.
The Accused Shareef Ibrahim said that ‘there was no intention to cheat the victims, but the time made me to do so. I will surely repay the amount as tenants of other flats pay it. The victims are lying that 110 tenants have complained and some have even not filed complaint against me due to the respect they have in me’.
The victims had also lodged complaints against Nazir Yousuf and Shakir Ahmed, both business associates of Shareef are still absconding.
