Mangaluru : The State government has set up a committee of experts to review and rewrite textbooks to remove content perceived as an attempt to saffronise them, during the BJP rule.
The committee will ensure that the textbooks conform to the National Curriculum Framework 2005 of the NCERT.
The committee is scheduled to hold its meeting this week, according to Suresh Bhat Bakrabail, president, Dakshina Kannada unit of Komu Sauharda Vedike, told that he learnt about this from a top government functionary.
Mr. Bhat is the chairman of a group, Committee for Resisting Saffronisation of Textbooks (CRST), that protested against the alleged attempts to saffronise textbooks.
Congratulating the State government for taking “the right decision to revisit school textbooks”, Mr. Bhat said CRST had campaigned against preparing textbooks on communally divisive lines; using textbooks for “mythification” and glorification of Indian history; projecting Indian history only as a record of the suffering of Hindu rulers under non-Hindu rulers; and continued stereotyping of women, Dalits and other minority groups such as Muslims and Christians.
