Mangalore : A large number of enthusiasts participated in the in the Half and Mini marathons organized by Dakshina Kannada district administration under the sponsorship of Vijaya Bank with the slogan of “Clean, Green, Progressive Mangalore” on Feb 20, Sunday morning.
The participation of Payyoli Express P T Usha, and Indian athletes like Reeth Abraham and Vandana Rao encouraged the runners of 21km long ‘Half Marathon’ and 6km long mini-marathon which commenced from Nehru Maidan.
District In-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar flagged off the Half Marathon and said that the event will emerge as an annual feature which will take place in Bangalore or Chennai.
DC Subodh Yadav said the event is the first experiment of the district administration of using sports for a social cause to protect the environment, in spite of various developments.
Around 7,000 participants registered their names to participate in the half-marathon and the mini-marathon.
The competitor ran through the length and breadth of the city and the event concluded at the Mangala Stadium.
