Kundapura: When Chandra (38) attempted to sell alive Peacock in town, he was informed, and then cought by personnel of special forest squad. The arrested man was from Gerusalu of Hosangady in the Kundapura Taluk.
Peacocks cannot be sold for meat, or for breeding them. Peacock is the Indian national bird. There are hundreds of Peacocks in the wild near Tannerubavi beach on the outskirts of port city Mangalore, living on trees, but no one kills them, or sells them.
The Peacock brought by Chandra to the market was confiscated by a Range Forest Officer. The mobile squad was headed by SI K.R.Manjunath. Forest CID Unit SP-V.R.Anwekar, conducted the seizure.
