Udupi : Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji has strongly opposed the opening of the second unit of the UPCL thermal plant at Nandikur.
The seer who is on a Chaturmasya in Chennai, has in a press communiqué, said he was strongly against the commencement of operations of the second unit, when the problems posed by the first unit were not rectified. He also recalled the assurances given to him, by the then CM DV Sadananda Gowda and former minister VS Acharya to solve the problems when he had staged a hunger strike some time back.
He said the second unit should not be opened without solving the problems arising from the first unit. He said the government had failed to act on the basis of the report of a private team of experts appointed by him. The seer while calling upon the people of the district to protest, has said he too would be part of the agitation after his Chaturmasya ends.
