Udupi : Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji who has reacted to the controversy over naming the proposed central university at Srirangapatna after Tipu Sultan, has said that the university should be named after a non-controversial personality.
In a press statement, the seer suggested that the university be named after a respectable personality instead of a controversial personality like Tipu. He also said that there were several great men of the past who were revered by both Hindus and Muslims and suggested that the university can even be named after great poets saints like Shishunala Sharief, Kabirdas, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad or former president APJ Abdul Kalam.
As far as Tipu is concerned, the atrocities he has committed have been explained by researchers like Chidanandamurthi, he said and added those defending Tipu have also not come out with any concrete evidence to prove otherwise.
