Mangalore : Sri Vishweshteertha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt has called off his fast against land notification under Mangalore SEZ after the additional deputy commissioner handed over government letter relating to government’s earlier announcement to denotify the 1998 acres of land for the second phase.
Speaking to the media representatives at the press meet held at Srinivas Kalyana Mantapa on Wednesday July 13, Swamiji urged the committee experts to study the environment affects of UPLC and submit its report by October 2 since 6 months will be too long.
The seven-member committee, comprising two environment experts K V Ramchandra and Y V Ramakrishna, should give an unbiased report on the matter, he said.
MSEZ victims like Malappa Gowda and Korgu Gowda said that the concerned people have put concrete in our land and we did not tell them put concrete, hence let they take it back. We don’t have money and we do not want any development and just allow us to live in peace in our own land.
Another victim Shyamala said that we are confident of getting our land, and swamiji will surely give justice to the victims. We want our land and we will fight for it until we get it back. When there is a case going on in the court, they should not have built the houses in or land, she added.
We used to grow vegetables and rice in our fields, and that would be sufficient for the year to eat and sell. We are scared to go out of the house since they would acquire their house too, she said.
