Koppala:  Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji f Pejawar Mutt has defended the raid on the Vyasaraja (Sosale) Mutt and has said the government initiated such a step at the request of the disciples of the Mutt.

The seer was speaking to reporters during his visit to the town to participate  in a   private function.

“I was aware of the irregularities with regard to the assets of Vyasaraja Mutt and had even directed those  concerned to set right the same,” the seer said. But the government had to now inevitably intervene, he said and added it was wrong to appoint Vidya Manohar Theertha as the mutt head. He was given the peetha in a haste, he further said.

The seer also said it was not wrong on the part of various communities to hold their respective conventions and added however such conventions should not affect the unity and integrity of the nation.

On the Yeddyurappa issue, the seer said “Yeddyurappa never heeded to my words in the past and  even now. Had he heeded to me, then there was no need for me to go on a stir against SEZ,” he said.
