Moodbidre :The 25th edition and three-day Alva’s Virasat inaugurated at Alva’s College grounds in Puttige, Moodbidri on Friday.
Pajawar Matadisha Vishweshatheertha Swamiji inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.
Dr. M.Mohana Alva is fascinating the people through art literature. Art literature has a special respect for the country. Music is a work of raising the consensus of literature. Mr Alva doing a great job in developing the sentiments of the people through music, Pajawar Matadisha said.
True to their statement before the concert, Hariharan and Leslie Lewis left the large audience spellbound with their songs from their popular album ‘Colonial Cousins’ on the occasion.
“What will happen today will not be happening elsewhere,” Mr. Lewis said before starting their one-hour concert at 7.30 p.m.
Very few audience members lifted their hands when the two singers wanted to know how many had heard of their album released in 1990. Then they regaled the audience with hits from their album Colonial Cousins and other songs.
Mr. Hariharan also presented the ghazal Kash Aisa Koi Manzar Hota from his album Kaash.
The two reserved the best for the popular song Krishna from Colonial Cousins album that was presented differently. The beats by the tabla player in the midst of this presentation was well appreciated by audience. The two ended the concert with the song Kai Zhala.
Earlier, Mr. Hariharan was presented with the Alva’s Virasat award which carried a purse of ₹1 lakh. Stating that he was humbled to receive the award, Mr. Hariharan asked youth to listen to good music, which, he said, acts as a healer and helps in keeping the heart and the mind peaceful.
A. Umanath Kotian, Moodbidri MLA, Chairman of Nitte Group of Institutions N. Vinay Hegde and Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation M. Mohan Alva participated in the programme.
