Mangaluru : The proposal for smart city will be finalized after consultation with stakeholders and sent to the Union government for approval, said H N Gopalakrishna, commissioner, MCC.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ consultation meet chaired by the mayor on Saturday, Gopalakrishna said that an in-depth consultation with stakeholders within a short span of time is impossible.
“We have decided to send out the pamphlets on the smart city concept to residents through the agency responsible for door-to-door waste collection on Monday so that they can formulate their views,” he said.
Faced with a stiff 100-day deadline, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) will push for zonal- level consultation with stakeholders to hard-sell the Smart City concept.
The consultations will be held in three zones of MCC under the leadership of mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred and area corporators.
Vishal S Salgaonkar, assistant vice-president, IIDC Ltd, consultant for the smart city proposal for Mangaluru, said that questionnaires will be sent in English and Kannada so that people can send in their views.
“People will be also given an option to send in their priorities via SMS,” he said.
He appealed to the tech-savvy populace to explore www.mygov.in and send in their suggestions and feedback. MCC could also explore the possibilities of utilizing various features of the website to get feedback from people, including its app, said Salgaonkar.
He added that his company will ultimately draw up what people want for their city as part of the final proposal.
“We have a stiff deadline,” he admitted, adding that the city is now in the final stage of the selection process. “We will strive to understand the city fully,” he added.
