Udupi : Vinay Kumar Sorake, Minister for Urban Development, said on Monday that the State government was thinking of converting Perdoor Gram Panchayat into a town panchayat. He was speaking after inaugurating various programmes, costing Rs. 25.26 lakh, and laying the foundation stone for work, costing Rs. 1.21 crore, at Perdoor in Udupi.
Mr. Sorake said that the Udupi district administration had identified four acres and 21 cents of land to distribute to landless persons in Perdoor. The list of landless people was being prepared and so far 237 applications for regularising land have been received. He added that the applications will be studied and beneficiaries will be given title deeds.
To solve problems regarding ration cards, the Udupi district administration is holding a food adalat every month and a consumer awareness committee will also be set up to deal with the issues.
Cases under the Goonda Act will be booked against those found selling rice, under the Anna Bhagya scheme, in the black market.
Mr. Sorake added that 10 revenue adalats will be held ever month to clear the applications pending in district taluk offices.
