Udupi: Due to the stat government and deputy commissioner’s wrong standing, Udupi district is facing a san shortage. In order to permanently solve this issue, attempts are being made in the level of the central government and accordingly, a delegation has once again left or Delhi on Monday, informed Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat after taking part in a private function here on Sunday November 25th.
In the previous years, permission was given for sand mining without getting any clarification from the central government. Only this year, the state government and the DC is insisting for the union government’s clarification on sand mining. The DC is giving more thought on how to not to start sand mining than on how to start it and is working based on that aim. We have already met the central minister and requested for clarification.
Now once again a delegation under the leadership of D V Sadananda Gowda will go to Delhi and request for a clear order to be passed. If this order comes, a permanent solution will be achieved. But the DC might still attempt to find even more points in it and try to prevent sand mining, criticized the MLA.
Former MP Jayaprakash Hegade spoke and said that if the sand is not removed the path of the water body will become narrow and can give rise to the danger of floods. The union government had said, “The decision regarding sand mining can be taken in the state itself.” Even then it’s not been done. This is causing much problem to workers and businesses. But there is hope for the problem to get solved soon, he said.
