Kasaragod: What was a religious service in temples having ancient traditions of beseeching God for favours, has turned a political weapon of Satyagraha to ABVP activists(college students). They conducted Urulu seve(roll down the road) on a national highway and abused the UPA government, for raising prices of petroleum products such as petrol and kerosene oil. Several local student leaders like Rajesh P., Ratheesh PV., Dhananjaya M and others took part in this service to the nation.
An effigy of PM Manmohan Singh was burnt in town, by AIYF activists who were picked up by the police and later released.
These All India Youth Front(AIYF) members took out a corpse of PM on its last journey, in a mock show. Sunil Madakkal, lawyer V. Suresh Babu, K. Manikantan and others joined the procession in mourning.
Several political parties, trade unions, youth fronts have taken exception to the petroleum products rate hike, insisting on a roll-back. The oil companies are willing to reduce the price rise partially. In Kolkata, Bengal CM Mamata Didi threatened to unseat UPA Government on Friday. BJP disapproved of the petrol price increase in New Delhi.
In Kasaragod district, AIYF took the lead in Public demonstrations against UPA(Central) government, with a mock march from new Bus stand to the city Maidan, where the effigy was reduced to ashes.
