Mangaluru: A picture of a police personnel, allegedly in an inebriated state, went viral on social media causing embarrassment to the police department.
The picture shows one of the head constables of Belthangady police station seated in uniform in the police station with whiskey, a two-litre soda bottle, paper glasses and tissues spread on the table.
Responding to the picture, Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy clarified though the liquor bottle was brought to the station by a personnel, no one consumed it and that the picture was taken by another constable to defame some “innocents”.
“The photo shown in news and social media is taken on November 11. The liquor bottle was brought to the station by Nicholas (a constable) who had his birthday on the said date. (He was) on the way to his quarters. He happened to keep them on the table (police station) where another constable was sitting and someone has taken a photo that time. Later Nicholas had taken it home. No one consumed liquor in station. Close observation of the photo also reveals it.
Another constable Danny had collected the photo and got it posted along with some others to insult/defame some innocents,” the SP said.
SP Sudheer further said, “Bringing a liquor bottle to station as well as trying to defame others who are not involved even without bringing it to the knowledge of superiors, both are seen as acts of indiscipline. Disciplinary action is initiated against both. Detailed enquiry will be done.”
