Mangaluru : The Shivarama Karanta Pilikula Nisargadhama getting ready to host ‘Rain Festival’ on June 14.
This Festival, to be held on Sunday, will have, among others, an exhibition and sale of earlier forms of rain protection accessories namely ‘Panooli’ and ‘Gorbe’. A stage with new umbrellas will also be displayed. A competition on umbrella designing will also take place. “The festival is similar to the concept of Rain Day celebrated in Waynesburg PA in the US,” said Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim.
A host of activities have been planned for June 14. The South Kanara Agricultural Development Society will bring in a range of agriculture equipments including power tillers and sowing machines. The Agriculture Department will have separate stall to provide information to farmers. Apart from sowing patterns, the Department will be providing information about preparation of vermicompost. The Horticulture Department will have a stall on terrace gardening and new varieties of ornamental plant species
The Kannada and Culture Department will present troupes performing “Tiger dance”, “Ge Ge Pada” singers and Chande players. There will also be magic show by young magicians. The Tourism Department have been asked to provide arrange caterers serving local cuisine made of namely jackfruit and cashewnut. There will be a photography competition on rain. A separate stall will be set-up for Rangoli-making and applying Mehndi.
