Mangalore : A special project is ready to develop the Pilikula Nisargadhama at Vamanjoor in the outskirts of Mangalore as a centre of major tourist attraction on the lines of such sanctuaries in Singapore and Malaysia. Pilikula is located in a 370 acre area and has a wildlife sanctuary in 150 acre land, a botanical garden spread over 80 acres and amusement park in 15 acres among other things.
The project costing Rs 61 crores envisages setting up of a 3-D planetarium, the first in the state, a butterfly park on Singapore lines, Orchid Park, folk world (Janapada Loka) etc. The CM has also held talks with the authorities with regard to the implementation of these projects.
The state budget has also allocated Rs 5 crores for the Janapada Loka in Pilikula and the CM has also assured more funds for the project.
The 3D Planetarium proposed Pilikula will be set up at a cost of Rs 24.50 crores . It will be located close by the Regional Science Centre at Pilikula. A Birds’ sanctuary is also proposed on the lines of Malaysia and a sum of Rs 15 crore is required for this project. Then a butterfly park is also proposed and will be set up at a cost of Rs 6 crores.
Yet another plan is to have an orchid park at the centre of the Herbarium and Botanical Museum at Pilikula. The Orchid Park would come up at a cost of Rs one crore.
Pilikula which already has a Sanskriti Grama would also have a folk world named Janapada Loka which is expected to be ready in another two years. This place would take visitors to yester years, the culture, lifestyle, customs, habits and the agricultural scenario of the past.
