Udupi: Kaup MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake said that the BPL cards will be given on the spot, if applicants appear with income certificates and Aadhaar cards.
Speaking at a quarterly KDP meeting convened at taluk panchayat on Thursday, he said a circular from the government in this regard is already under way and the work for spot approval and sanctioning of BPL cards will begin from March 9.
In Hiriyadka, Kaup and Padubidri, 500 BPL cards have been given in three days, he said.
Emphasising on the water problems as the summer is already nearing, the MLA said the PDOs have been instructed to list out works worth Rs 5 lakh, in case of severe water scarcity as part of the emergency measures and send it to the task force set up for the purpose.
Proposals for new borewells, repair of the defunct wells and pipelines are among the works which can be considered, he said.
Sorake stated that works worth Rs 57 crore related to water construction projects for Kaup town has been approved by the Cabinet. The works begin shortly and the plans have been designed keeping in mind the next 25 years. Neighbouring villages will also get water, he added.
He said that the Cabinet is yet to approve works worth Rs 61 crore wherein the proposal mentions the supply of water from Shambavi River in Palimaru to 10 villages in the surroundings. The Cabinet is also yet to approve the multivillage drinking water scheme at Chantaru, he said.
There were complaints by the members over the poor functioning of Rajiv Gandhi Housing Nigam in-charge of housing schemes. They charged that there were a lot of problems and the funds are not released despite following proper procedures. The Nigam officials are least bothered if the complaints are given, they claimed.
Sorake assured them that he will hold talks with the Nigam officials.
