Bangalore: The forest Minister C.H.Vijayshanker, said here today that his department had planned to have a Plantation day every month to plant more trees and look after their growth for 6 months under afforestation plans in the interests of greenery.
The Forest officials would keep a watch and inform him on the progress made in land coverage for govt use so that such forest cover could be improved by stages.
He announced a cash award of Rs.1 lakh to the famed environment woman, Salumarada Thimmakka, who lived on a paltry state pension unable to meet her daily needs, so she could live decently in her old age.
Thimmakka and a police officer (Srinivasan) who fought the late forest brigand Veerappan of Tamilnadu would be honoured soon. He announced a higher compensation of 5 lakhs to those dying in man-animal conflicts.
