Kasaragod: the Rajapura estate belonging to Plantations Corporation of Kerala was gutted by a large fire on Thursday, February 23 in Kerala sate. In view of helpful winds, fire spread like a contagious disease, devastating 60 acres of cashew plantation property that in a day lies in ruins censing a loss of Rs. 1.50 crores.
A thousand Voluble cashew trees and crops have perished, and a guest-house in the estate is charred like history ruins.
Fire Brigade engines from Kuttikolu and Kanhangad rushed to the region, and brought fire under control with great-effort, but smoke continue to rise from the ashes. The fire also affected a large number of rubber trees belonging to a private ownership.
It will take years to raise another estate of such trees amid ruins now.
