Karwar: Even the Karwar City Municipal Council has taken a step in the right direction with regard to ban on plastic. The Council on November 6, Tuesday resolved that all CMC members and officials will refrain from using plastic carry bags, cups etc.
The meeting also discussed in length regarding solid waste management. CMC Commissioner Uday Kumar Shetty said henceforth at all CMC meeting, plastic cups will not be used, instead glass and paper cups will be used. The CMC will also refrain from presenting plastic flowers and bouquets to guests and instead would offer books published by the Department of Kannada and Culture.
It was also informed at the meeting that a Compost Yard is being set up at Shirawada in the outskirts of Karwar at a cost of Rs one crore.
The Commissioner also requested the public to reduce the use of plastic carry bags and bottles.
Ganapati Ulvekar, CMC president, Nayana Malsekar, Vice President and other officials were present.
