Udupi: The Udupi Dt. And distant Chamarajanagar Dt. Administrations have prohibited use of paper and plastic flags during national days of celebration, like Independence Day,(due on Aug 15th – 65th), in an important step taken as a model to all other regions of the Karnataka state. The handbills and stickers showing a national flag, are also prohibited on that day. This is to save the country from showing disrespect to the national tricolour by cheap methods, and to preserve national dignity for symbols representing the country.
The orders were issued by respective DCs in the region.
Dr. M.T.Reju in Udupi proscribed plastic use for the Indian flag. It would be a punishable offence to throw around torn flags made of paper or plastic, he cautioned users.
