Mangalore: Any vacant ground is not good enough for a bad for a bad smelling industrial unit like a fishmeal unit, them how can a playground be suitable for such a project? Residents of Kasba Bengre are up in protest, led by Moideen Juma Mosque and Super star sports club committees against the potential land-grabbing attempt made over a playground in their area, just because it looks unoccupied.
Committee chief Bilal Moideen of the mosque stated on Mondayhere that earlier large tracts of land in the region were handed over to the Bharathi Ship-building Yard for useful purposes, but some greedy private parties were coming in now.
There was an alleged clandestine deal by local authorities with a private company wanting to convert a children’s play ground into a fishmeal unit, Bilal complained. 4 private companies were angling for a plot actually registered in the name of Super Star Sports Club in 1982.
These entities have laid the foundation for a building, like an industrial estate, which the local citizens would not allow at any cost, Bilal protested. We want DCO to take quick action to protect the playground, he added.
He insisted that the ground should be returned to its original glory. The protestors took out a procession from club to the Maidan, and rallied there for a memorandum, later submitted to DC of Dakshina Kannada district, DT Channappa Gowda ton Monday, Dec 26.
