Mangalore : MCC Mayor Mahabala Maarla picked the broom to clean the surroundings of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) building to mark the Gandhi Jayanthi on Oct 2, Thursday morning.
Prior to the campaign he garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi located in the building premises.
Mayor was accompanied by Deputy Mayor Kavitha, Gokulnayak Das, D K Ashok, Vinay Raj and Prakash Salian.
Bharath Sevadal: The Mangalore unit of Bharath Sevadal in association with district administration observed Gandhi Jayanthi at Town Hall today.
MLA J R Lobo offered ‘khadi’ garland to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Park opposite Town Hall and said that every citizen must follow the Principles of Mahatma Gandhi who brought independence to this country with non-violence.
Lobo also felicitated senior freedom fighter Ujire Subraya Shenoy on this occasion.
A book on Gandhiji titled ‘Gandhi Hejjegalu’ published by the information department was also released on the occasion.
Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim, Police Commissioner R Hithendra, SP S Sharanappa, Kannada Ahitya Parishat president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, Information officer BA Khader Shah, Thashildar Mohan Rao, TK Sudhir, Prabhakar Shreyan, Vijayalakshmi Shetty and others were present.
Bharathiya Janatha Party: As a part of ‘Clean India’ mission, several members of Bharathiya Janatha Party took broom to mark ‘Swacch Bharath Abhiyan’ administered by PM Narendra Modi near BJP office in PVS circle on Thursday.
BJP members Ravishankar Mijar, Monappa Bhandary, Vedavyasa and others were present.
While, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel launched a massive drive at Central Railway Station Mangalore and ventured into cleaning the railway track holding the broom in hand on Wednesday. He also provided enough food for shutterbugs found around.
In an another instance the volunteers of Indian Red Cross Society- Mangalore in association with Rotary Club of Mangalore, Members of Railway Protection Force (RPF), volunteers of Bharat Scouts & Guides and School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya under the aegis of Konkan Railway and Southern Railway Palakkad Division also took initiative to spread awareness on cleanliness in the city.
Corporation Bank: Corporation Bank employees led by Executive Director Amal Lal Daultani, cleaned the Corporate Office premises and its precincts as a part of clean city campaign.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Bank Swach Vidayalaya Scheme will be constructing 100 toilets in schools which lack facility across the country.
The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) provided required equipment, gloves, and transportation of the garbage to the landfill site to support the drive.

Bantwal Circle Inspector K U Belliyappa launched a drive organized by officials of Public Educational Department in association with Town Municipal Council, Lions Club, Bharath Scouts and Guides, NSS volunteers of Government College and Bharatiya Janata Party.
