Mangalore : A poem gives greater scope for interpretation when compared to the prose as in a poem the poet  only partially conveys his message while giving enough scope for interpretation, said eminent poet and lyricist Gulzar.

He was delivering a lecture on Poetry at a function organized by Kavita Trust in Mangalore on July 8, Sunday. There is more to feel in a poem, he said added he as a film lyricist has to compose songs in accordance to changing times.

He also said  some of the songs penned by him for some films were keeping in mind the characters for which the songs were penned. By saying so he was referring to the popular ‘ Kajraare’ and ‘Beedi Jalaile’ songs authored by him. Gulzar’s talk on poetry was not only enlightening, but also entertaining. The entire talk, mainly in Urdu was lively with  a dash of humour at times.

“Vinchnnar Kavita” – a collection of poems by Sahitya Akademi Award winner and president of Kavita Trust, poet Melvyn Rodrigues was released by Gulzar on the occasion.
