Puttur: The Uppinangady police, on Monday arrested three youths from a rented house and rescued a child; it is suspected to be a case of abduction and child trafficking racket.
The police received a tip off and raided the house at Perne; they managed to rescue the 56-day-old child along with the birth records. Those arrested told the police that the child’s mother had gone to Nepal and they were looking after the child as per instructions from the child’s father.
Those arrested are Mohammad Udaif (28) from Bengaluru, Siyab (24) and Sameer (21). They rented a house at Perne on Monday morning and brought the child in a car bearing a Tamil Nadu registration number.
The locals informed the police and they rushed to the spot. The police have the child’s birth records and accordingly, the child was born in Bengaluru. The parents names mentioned in the reports are Jalaluddin and Karishma. However, the police are yet to verify the authenticity of the certificate.
The police are now trying to find answers to several questions including: How did the mother leave her child and go to Nepal? How did the trio gain possession of the birth records? Is it part of a child trafficking racket? The truth will be revealed only after investigation.
The police handed over the child to Shishu Kendra which is under the supervision of the Department of Child Welfare.
