Mangaluru: After 2 months Puttur Police have nabbed two persons connection to the murder case of a woman at Guthhigaru in Sullia taluk on Wednesday, July 6.
Accused, Karunakar (52) murdered Vedavathi (45), a resident of Mettinadka On April 16. His wife Padma also involved in the crime.
Addressing to Press persons here on July 7, Suprindient of Police SP Bhushan G Borase, said that the police have recovered stolen gold ornaments worth Rs 2 lakh from the accused, Karunakar.
Subsequent of the murder, locals were protested to arrest the culprit before July 7.
Police questioned some people and also checked the call records of suspects. With the help of fingerprint and forensic experts, the crime spot was also inspected. Puttur police kept a close watch on Karunakar’s movements. A team Lead by Sub Inspector Manjunath 10 experienced cops was formed and along with the help of Bengaluru cyber crime branch the accused was cornered and arrested.
Accused Karunakar neighbour of killed vedavathi, her husband Jayaram, a farmer and they lived along with a girl relative. On the day of murder Jayaram had left home, and Vedavathi was alone at home.
Karunakar had knocked at her house and allowed him inside because she knew him. He followed her with a sickle and murdered her. Then Karunakar escape with the gold before making sure that there was no evidence left behind.
The murder came to light when Vijith, a relative, visited the house and found Vedavathi lying dead in the kitchen and the ornaments on her missing.
After the incident he had admitted to a private to mislead the police. Police took him custody after his discharge. Police questioned him and he revealed the truth and the police concluded that he was the accused.
Karunakar was accused in a forgery case about five years ago, SP Bhushan G Borase said.
