Mangalore : A bridegroom landed at a police station on the wedding day scheduled on October 12 on charges of demanding dowry from bride’s father.

The arrested bridegroom has been identified as Ilyas (24) from Pavoor, who had agreed to marry the daughter of Aboobaker hailing from Krishnapura 4th block after on demanding Rs 2.5 lakhs.

Aboobaker scheduled the wedding on October 12 after paying the full dowry amount. But just before two-days, Ilyas contacted him and demand 70 sovereign gold and cash of Rs.5 lakhs and threatened to call off wedding if he fails to fulfill his demands.

Getting depressed over the matter, Aboobaker and family members informed the demand to police , who in turn arrested Ilyas on the wedding day and remanded him to 14 days judicial custody.

During the interrogation, Ilyas confessed of receiving the money and demanding more to meet his wedding expenses.
