Mangalore: SP Abhishek Goyal said that the police have nabbed the accused of Baby Thomas and his wife Mary took place in their house in Undila at Kodimbala in Puttur.
He was speaking at the press meet held at his office on October 30, Tuesday. The accused are identified as Kamaruddin (25) and Mohammed Rafique (33), who were working as construction laborers for Thomas.
He said that CPI Puttur (rural) had investigated the case and the accused had revealed that they had planned to murder the couple from three months for their valuables they possessed.
Reportedly, the accused had visited Thomas’ house at midnight on September 25 and asked him to drop them home in his car giving reason of bike broke down. As Thomas was moving towards Boloor cross, the accused stopped the car and killed him. They also robbed his chain and drove his car back to his home along with the dead body and killed his wife Mary. Later stole her gold and broke opened the cupboard and took away other valuables.
SP Goyal said that the weapon used for murder and the motorbike have been found and stolen jewelry and the mobile phones are yet to be found.
The motive behind the murder was robbery for money, since they were involved in gambling.
Speaking on Sowjanya Rape and Murder Case, he said that Santhosh Rao, had raped and murdered the girl and the department is still waiting for the FSL report for confirmation.
If the family requests, the police will transfer the case to COD or the CID for investigation.
The department has drafted a proposal to home ministry and the higher authorities to recruit more police officers, especially in Naxal-infested zones like Punjalkatte, Belthangady, and Venur.
A special request has been made for one police sub inspector, two assistant sub inspectors, 25 constables, and 6 head constables for each of these police stations, he said.
