Mangalore : Commissioner of police R Hitendra, said that the eye witnesses must help the police department to reveal the incident occurred in front of them so that it will help them so that they can catch criminals faster. If not police must seek the help of other agencies like the forensic department.
He was speaking after inaugurating a one-day seminar held on the topic ‘Public Participation in the Prevention and Detection of Crime’ at Roshni Nilaya School of Social Work, Mangalore on September 13, Saturday.
The seminar was organized by the College in association with the Mangalore Commissionerate.
Commisssioner said that when the police officials take an effort to protect the society, people must help them with providing information. Sometimes people who commit crime hail from criminal background or some force them to commit crimes hence it is not possible for them to look after each and everyone in the society hence, public participation is required.
In most of the cases, police do not find fingerprints or footprints, such cases will take time to solve. But, in other countries like America and Britain, have DNA tracing system which helps them to catch criminals easily. DNA tracing system is yet to start in India and this will help police to keep society safe from any kind of danger.
Dr Philomena D’Souza, director of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, said that people often blame police or the government when crime takes place. In fact the real mistake is done by public who do not help the police to get the true story of the incident.
Dr Sophia N Fernandes, principal of the College presided over the event.
Prior to the seminar, Commissioner inaugurated ‘Forensic Exhibition-2014’ organized by criminology department of Roshni Nilaya and Father Muller Medical College.
