Mangaluru: After receiving several complaints regarding foul smell emanating from fish transporting vehicles, at the recent police phone-in programme, the department has come out with certain guidelines to combat the issue.
Taking a cue from the National Green Tribunal (southern zone) guidelines given to neighbouring state Kerala, the Mangaluru police came out with below-mentioned rules which need to be strictly adhered by the fish transporters.
Fish transporting vehicles should be adequately insulated and made leak proof.
Fish would have to be loaded into crates and not directly into the vehicle transporting them to prevent seepage of melted ice.
Lastly, wastewater collection tanks should be fitted to the vehicles to check problem of water spillage.
The department on May 6 handed out these guidelines to the transporters and explained the same to them at a meeting called for the purpose.
