Mangaluru: Police have made elaborate security arrangements in Dakshina Kannada district in the wake of Mangaluru Chalo Bike Rally and a party convention to be organised by state BJP youth wing on August 7 at Nehru Maidan in Mangaluru city.
The police department hasn’t yet granted its permission to the bike rally followed by a party convention in Mangaluru city citing security reasons as the district is returning to its normal state after a series of incidents of communal violence during the past three to four months. Karnataka state government has also stated that the rally could spoil peace in Dakshina Kannada as a number of organisations in the district have objected the rally.
A company including 135 Rapid Action Force (RPF) personnel, 10 platoons of Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), five platoons from CAR and district police personnel held flag march in Ullal, Thokkottu, Kodi and other parts of Dakshina Kannada on Tuesday to build confidence among the locals.
A platoon from RAF, 15 KSRP platoons, another 15 CAR platoons, police personnels from other districts have been deployed in Mangaluru and nearby areas to maintain law and order in the district. The police have also established check posts at the border areas of the Dakshina Kannada district to prevent the entry of BJP workers in to the district as part of their Mangaluru Chalo rally.
Meanwhile, Harish Poonja, Dakshina Kannada District BJP Yuva Morcha President and other BJP leaders have stated that BJP will hold bike rally and a party convention in Mangaluru as scheduled earlier at any cost even if the state government and police department have denied for the rally. However, no arrangements have been made by district BJP unit at Nehru Maidan as just 24 hours remained for the party convention tomorrow.
