Mangaluru: City police lathi-charged protestors and detained several persons for stone pelting and violence and attacks at policemen near Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday, December 19.
Mangalore City police impose 144 section till December 21, although some groups came to near DC office and gathered to protest. Police informed the group by warning of 144 section rules.
The group then stood near the mosque on the Nellikai road and threw stones at the police. Another team stood near Rao and Rao Circle and began stone pelting to policemen.
At last police commissioner arrived the mob to dipurse from the spot, the group again started throwing stones. then police started lathi-charging to the protestors.
Several people, including police personnel are said to have sustained injuries.
Former mayor Ashraf tried to convince protesters and requested them to withdraw the protest. He was beaten by the protesters badly. Ashraf, who suffered serious injuries, was shifted to hospital by police.
Prohibitory orders have been clamped down in Managluru till December 21 midnight. Curfew was declared in central sub division of Mangaluru under five police station limits till December 22.
