Udupi : Several cattle in the vehicle have been rescued by Padubidri police in a cattle smuggling attempt by a vehicle near the Hejamady toll gate.

The vehicle was on way to Kerala from Hubballi. The arrested driver was from Hubballi while the other person was of Kerala origin.

The animals were crammed inside the vehicle and the condition of many of them are said to be critical.

Meanwhile, it has been gathered that another lorry in which cattle were being smuggled had managed to proceed without getting caught by the police.
