Mangaluru : The Mangaluru City Traffic Police will launch another special drive against tinted glasses on cars, and vehicles plying without registration plates, said Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil on Friday.
Responding to a caller who complained about a vehicle with heavily tinted glass moving around in Urwa Market during his first phone-in here, Mr. Patil asked the traffic police to escalate the drive and penalise owners/drivers of such vehicles besides removing the tint. Action will also be taken against the users of vehicles without registration plates, he assured the caller.
Mr. Patil had to hear about a public nuisance just outside his office premises when a caller from Pandeshwar said instant foodmakers on push carts have occupied the pavement abutting his office in front of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavana on Mangaladevi Road.
Besides obstructing movement of people, the push carts are a nuisance to women too, the caller said, prompting the Commissioner to direct immediate action to remove them.
Another caller said students of Srinivasa College in Pandeshwar park their vehicles on Shivanagar Main Road obstructing vehicular movement.
Mr. Patil asked traffic police to sort out the issue not inconveniencing either residents or students. Mr. Patil promised action on a complaint from a Hat Hill resident of absence of street lights and immoral activities in parked cars in the area.
He also asked the Assistant Commissioner of Police (South) to inspect a stone-crushing unit at Phajeer village near Konaje after a resident complained of blasts during the nights and other nuisance.
A woman from Padil had a general complaint about absence of traffic signal lights, zebra crossings on roads and inadequate footpaths across the city. Mr. Patil promised to address the issue.
Responding a caller about nuisance by Bengaluru-bound private buses parked between PVS and Bunts Hostel during nights, the Commissioner said he would make a spot visit soon to address the issue.
Deputy Commissioners of Police Hanumantharaya (Law and Order) and Uma Prashanth (Crime and Traffic), Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic), M. Manjunatha Shetty, DK Bus Operators’ Association President Dilraj Alva and others were present.
