Mangalore : Senior Congress leader B Janardhana Poojary said that the state government is hesitating to hand over Kabir encounter case to CBI probe, who was gunned down by the ANF personnel at Shringeri check-post on April 19, Saturday.
Addressing the press meet held at District Congress office on April 21, Monday, he said that Home Minister KJ George has assured to conduct CID probe, but since people have no faith in it, the government must immediately act to announce a CBI probe to gain the trust of people have in them.
Poojary said that the incident clearly shows it was not an encounter by mistake, but was a clear cut case of murder. The concerned authority have also failed to take stringent action against the ANF personnel, who was responsible for gunning down the innocent cattle trader from Jokatte.
He also asked the reason with Police Department for their hesitation to take action against the case. The assault by the Hindu outfits on Kabir’s family who had been to Shringeri to bring back the body is also condemned.
The government which has decided to give the compensation of Rs 5 lakh to Kabeer family is not sufficient and urged to increase the compensation to Rs 20 lakh and provide job to one of his family members.
Former MLA Vijaykumar Shetty, Mayor Mahabala Maarla, District Congress Interim President Kodijal Ibrahim, Suresh Ballal, Ivan D’Souza and others were present.
