Mangaluru : Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest outside the corporate office of Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd. here on Tuesday opposing power cuts in the State.
Addressing the protesters, K. Monappa Bhandary, former MLC, said that the State government had failed to meet the demand for power in the State.
It had also failed to address the Kalasa-Bhanduri issue. It was going ahead with the Yettinahole project at the cost of damaging the Western Ghats and the Nethravati.
“It seems the government is in a state of deep slumber,” he said.
Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, said that despite knowing the poor power situation since last year, the government had so far not made any arrangements to get power from other States.
“The Union government has provided the State with its share of power from the Central Grid. But Power Minister D.K. Shivakumar has so far not made any request of allocation of additional power,” he said.
Mr. Shivakumar cannot just rely on divine intervention but work towards getting power,” he added.
