Mangaluru : The body of Indian techie Prabha Arun Kumar, who was stabbed to death in Sydney on March 7, arrived in Bengaluru last night for last rites. The body would later today be taken to her native village Amtoor in Mangaluru for last rites.
Karnataka Home Minister KJ George and BJP leader Anant Kumar were among those who paid their tributes to Kumar.
“This is a very unfortunate incident. Our External Affairs Ministry have already taken this issue with the Australian government. We are confident they will take all the cautionary measures,” said George.
The Ministry of External Affairs had earlier assured that the Sydney police was pursuing Kumar’s case ‘very seriously’, while also cautioning against labelling the attack as racist.
MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said the Indian Consulate General in Sydney had requested New South Wales Premier Michael Baird to pursue the matter.
