Mangaluru: “Our education system prefers personal betterment; such system cannot bring change in the society. We should change our mentality,” said higher education Minister Basavraj Raya Reddy.

He was addressing the gathering a programme organised at Ramakrishna Math for college professors, on Friday.

“Providing education for the sake of job is a selfish deed. Education should teach morality also. Teachers should teach students to think about the betterment of the society. Mangaluru is famous for quality education. People of Mangaluru are not only brilliant but they are humble and cultured people also,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion Math President Swami Jeethakaamanadaji said that education should teach students what is right and what is wrong.

Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo, MU Chancellor K Bairappa, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik and others were present.
