Aizawl (Mizoram): President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, reached Mizoram to fulfil an engagement in University which is set up in April 2000 as a Central one.
Speaking at a largely attended meeting, she informed that India’s enrolment on higher education would go up from present 14 million to 4 crores (40m) by 2020 she addressed a convocation of M-University.
She placed the responsibility of tripling the higher education enrolments on old and new Universities of this country. She laid emphasis in short-term courses for students that suit local demands, like flori-culture, mushroom cultivation, medical plants, and the like, where students and teachers participate in Knowledge and work.
She delightfully detailed the various crops of Mizoram and explained how they were lost to rodents and famine. The region had great bio-diversity, also in surgency under difficult living conditions.
She asked the faculty members, whom she described as the “lifeblood” of MU to guide the students like a friend to face the world.
