Ranchi: Bihar’s Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Lalu Prasad spent Monday night inside Ranchi’s Birsa Munda jail after he was convicted by a CBI court in fodder scam. He has been allotted prisoner number 3312. Lalu has been made to wear jail uniform and has been kept in Upper Divisional Cell, where former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda used to stay.
There are two VIP blocks in this jail, and Lalu has been kept in Block A having four rooms. Lalu Prasad has been given a room 10 feet long and 12 feet wide, furnished with a bed and mattress, a TV set, a chair and a table. There is an attached bathroom.
There is a drawing room lounge with sofas. Twenty security personnel have been deputed for the former Bihar chief minister, alongwith an attendant, who will attend to cooking and other household chores.
On Monday Lalu demanded a western-style commode, and he was immediately allotted one.
Lalu’s room directly faces the room where Jehanabad MP Jagdish Sharma has been kept.
On Monday afternoon, Lalu was served tea inside the jail. In the evening, he ot snacks. At night, Lalu Prasad had a simple vegetarian mail consisting of rice, roti, dal and vegetables. He has also been provided his favourite ‘khaini’ (dry tobacco). At night, before going to sleep, Lalu Prasad read the newspapers, appeared to be restless for sometime and then went to sleep.
Among those who met him in jail included Jharkhand’s RJD minister Annapurna Devi, RJD leader Ram Kripal Yadav, Abdul Bari Siddiqui, Sadhu Yadav, Jharkhand minister Suresh Paswan and former MP Kanti Singh.
