Udupi: A speeding bus rammed into a stationary tempo on national highway 66 at Udyavar injuring at least 10 persons here on Wednesday May 23rd.
The injured have been identified as Sudeep of Shivamogga (21), Pavitra from Nandikur (23), Mohammed from Ullal (53), Shilpa Shenoy from Suratkal (23), Swapna from Gundibail (28), Vidya S Poojary from Udyavar (30), Soumya from Padabettu (21), Prakash from Katapady (21) and tempo driver Santosh (23) from Katapady.
The tempo laden with hollow blocks was plying towards Udupi. The driver had parked the tempo near Halima Sabju hall in Udyavar, and was waiting for a loader. The private bus plying from Mangaluru to Udupi rammed into the tempo from behind, causing injuries to at least 10 persons.
The impact of the collision overturned the tempo and the hollow blocks were scattered all over the road. Both the vehicles sustained severe damage.
The accident caused traffic jams on the highway foe sometime and Kaup police as well as personnel of Katapady outpost rushed to the spot and with the help of the locals restored the traffic. A case has been registered at Kaup police station.
