Mangaluru: In order to ensure early completion of the Mangaluru Dasara procession on October 19, the Kudroli Gokarnanatheswara temple and the city police have put in place restrictions including asking participants to get registered with the temple.
At a meeting held at the temple premises here on Monday, Mangaluru Police Commissioner T.R. Suresh said leader of each of the tableaux participating in long procession should get registered with the temple. Only on the clearance by the temple, the police will permit taking part in the procession. “Be ready with the tableau on October 18 and join the procession on time to ensure timely completion,” he said at the meeting attended by those taking part in the procession.
Padmaraj R., treasurer, Temple Managing Committee, said the temple was keen on bringing some changes, in consultation with police, to ensure that the procession ended by 4 a.m. on October 20. Along with each of the tableau, they would allow a vehicle carrying a generator but no other vehicles. The head of each of the tableau should submit copies of his Aadhaar card and of those who will be on the tableau to the temple committee. About 75 tableaux will participate in the procession, he added.
Harikrishna Bantwal, temple development committee member, asked participants to ensure that the procession keeps on moving. “This is the procession for the people and there is a limit to how much they can be kept waiting. The procession should be made to move slowly,” he said.
Another committee member asked groups doing the tiger dance, especially from Matadakani and Barke areas, to be ready by 4 p.m. He asked the leaders of each of tableau to be in the procession throughout. They should ensure proper conduct of people who accompany them, he said.
Mr. Suresh said he will call another meeting of participants soon after registration was done so as to issue guidelines.
Deputy Commissioners of Police Hanumantharaya and Uma Prashant also attended the meeting.
