Mangalore: Dr. N.S. Channappa Gowda, local DC in charge of 17th National Youth Festival due in city on Jan 12-16, told Pressmen on Monday that 5000 Yong sportsmen and performers will arrive from all over India as delegates and 35 achievers will be awarded National Youth titles.
The state government had released Rs.5 crores for the entire event, besides Central Government granting Rs. 2 crore. About 450 officials were monitoring the preparations for the mega even.
A synthetic track is to be laid at Mangala stadium later on. Various competitions that go into the Festival are arranged in venues like Town hall, TMA Pai Centres, Devadiga Hall (Mannagudda), SDM Law College, and elsewhere.
The Young participants will be entertained by celebrities at night in Mangala Stadium on Jan 13 to 15, at 7 PM, by music performances.
A Food festival and Youth creations show will be held at Karavali Utsav grounds, and water sports on Panambur beach. A boat race on Jan 14, volleyball on Jan 15, Kambala and flower show at Pilikula Dhama on Jan 15, are other programmes.
