Mangalore : Mayor Praveen said that once in three years there will be revised the rates for collecting property tax under self-assessment scheme (SAS), likewise there will be 15% increase in property tax from April 1, Friday
Speaking at the press meet held at his chamber on March 31, Thursday said that the increase will be held for three years from 15 % to 30% according section 109(A)
MCC Dr K N Vijayaprakash, said that the MCC as per the State government order has decided to enforce the tax from tomorrow for the growth and development of the city.
Speaking on the solid waste management he said that Property owners as well as tenants will have to pay solid waste management cess every month. He said that the there is enough of technical support. It is necessary to accept the municipal act, he said.
He also said that, the cess for the residential houses upto 1000 sq ft is Rs 10, from 1000 sq ft to 3000 sq ft is Rs 30 and the houses over 3000 sq ft must pay Rs 50.
For commercial buildings within 1000 sq ft is Rs 50. Within 1000 sq ft to 5000 sq ft is Rs 100 and above 1000 sq ft is Rs 200. For Industrial building upto 1000 sq ft is Rs 100, within 1000 sq ft to 5000 sq ft is Rs 200 and above 5000 sq ft is Rs 300.
Apart from it, the cess for Hospitals, Marriage halls and Nursing Homes upto 10,000 sq ft is Rs 300, within 10,000 sq ft to 50,000 sq ft is Rs 500 and above 50,000 sq ft is Rs 600.
He said that the MCC will get the profit of Rs 12 crores, at present it can gerenerate the amount of Rs 3.5 crores.
The cess collection for solid waste management is satisfactory and till March 15 around 94% of money has been collected. From April 1 to April 30, 2011 the property tax can be rebate, from May to June if tax not paid there will be no fine but from July, they have to pay the fine of 2% every month, he added.
