Mangalore : It has been learnt that due to hurdles in acquiring large scale land for the setting up of the proposed Ultra Mega Thermal power plant at Niddodi in Moodbidri, the Karnataka government may think in terms of splitting the plant and set up units in three to four locations.
If sources are to be believed at least 2000 acres of land is required and there are plans to have units in some other places where land has already been acquired for the setting up of industries.
As per the revised plan, the Central Energy Authority may be asked to set up smaller and specific units in Mangalore taluk. However it is not preferred to have the units elsewhere but in Mangalore where there is a port and procurement of coal would be easy.
