Mangalore: The Thokkottu Traders’ Association (TTA) organised a large rally on Tuesday, from the over bridge to Junction in protest against procuring additional land between Nanthoor and Thalapady to widen the NH 17 to 60 metres only to help road builders while in all coastal areas from Kerala to Koteshwara and Kundapur, the NHA of India had acquired only 45 metres of land, the speakers at the rally pointed out on April 12. Around 100 members of the TTA participated in a Rasta Rokho held as part of the protest. Traffic was disrupted.
Almost all shops in the area (Thokkottu) had brought down the shutters today, following the demonstrations.
Rural Circle Inspector of Police, Manjunath Shetty, supervised a n elaborate security set-up to curb anti-social elements during the protest.
